The Zouch Bridge Replacement Scheme, led by Leicestershire County Council, is an extensive infrastructure upgrade replacing the ageing Zouch Bridge over the River Soar. The bridge is a vital transport link from Nottinghamshire to Leicestershire, and its replacement provides long-term viability for local residents.

Along with the bridge scheme, the scheme included towpath renewal and infrastructure improvement, designed to enhance flood resilience and safeguard the environment surrounding it.

The Challenge

With any large civil engineering project comes the requirement to deal with water in an effective manner. With the River Soar still presenting a risk of flooding, reliable backflow prevention was required on a number of river outfalls.

At a critical point in the construction, the project team needed high-performance flap valves with urgency. Procurement delay risked programme disruption, potential cost overrun, and flooding hazard during works.
