The Liberator and Trencher submersible dewatering/drainage pumps are two clear favorites within the hire industry and are both perfectly suited for a range of applications. On the face of it, both pumps look somewhat similar in their features, this poses the question, what are the benefits of each? And how do you know which would be most suitable for your application?

The Liberator

The Liberator Range of submersible dewatering/drainage pumps are compact, light and powerful. They are suitable for handling groundwater and water containing sand and silt.

What are the benefits of the Liberator?

Firstly, a clear benefit for the Liberator pump is the interchangeable major components. This means that this pump can be converted from a sub-pump to a puddle pump, pumping down to 1mm, giving you two pumps for the price of one. Secondly, the stainless steel outer casing is both hardwearing and extremely easy to clean. The Liberator also features a top outlet to reduce its total surface area for smaller sumps and situations.

The Trencher

The Trencher range of submersible dewatering/drainage pumps come with built-in agitators are compact, light and powerful. Like the Liberator, this pump is also suitable for groundwater and water containing sand and silt.

What makes this pump unique? 

This pump features a built-in agitator at the base of the pump, helping to stir where the water is muddy and contains solids – perfect for building sites. The Trencher operates in the conventional method, with the flow going around the inside of the volute area, this is a preference to some.

The Conclusion

There are clear benefits to both of these groundwater pumps. The Liberator is made from stainless steel outer casing and therefore is easy to clean. With this pump, you have the opportunity to buy a conversion kit where you can convert to a PuddlePal and vice versa – essentially getting two pumps for the price of one. The Trencher on the other hand, features a built-in agitator and an outlet on the side, making it ideal for muddy applications, for example, construction sites. This pump is slightly more cost-effective than the Liberator, due to the fact it cannot be converted into a puddle pump.
