Jupiter Package Pumping Station for Recycling Hub

When Virador, Scotland’s leading recycling and renewable energy company, began preparing a number of environmental improvements to its Bargeddie Recycling Hub as part of Scotland’s zero waste initiative, T-T was contacted to provide a pumping station to service the development and the new extension.

First opened in 2009, The Bargeddie Recycling Hub is now undergoing a state-of-the-art development to become a fully enclosed residual Materials Recycling Facility (rMRF) worth more than £25 million. This facility collates, mechanically treats and stores waste for onward thermal treatment at Viridors Energy Recovery Facility. In addition to this, a two-story office and visitor hub have been built, to provide welfare for staff on site as well as provide space for visitors to learn about the site and Scotland’s wider waste management and recycling priorities. With these changes, the hub required a pumping station that could cope with the size of the plant, which would be situated under a heavily trafficked road.

In order to accommodate the specifications set out for this large development, T-T selected a 2.5m deep Jupiter Pumping Station with 150mm pipework, from their BBA-approved Planet Range. The package was supplied with a 5-tonne access cover and a fully automatic control panel, activated by level switches complete with pump trip/high-level alarm with audio/visual warning incorporated as standard. Two submersible pumps from the Zenit range were chosen based on their high performance and efficiency, and their low environmental impact, offering reduced CO2 emissions and lower running costs. Gate valves and reflux valves were also selected to aid in the effective removal of wastewater to the nearest sewer network.
