Bespoke Pumping Solution for London Underground Station
Tottenham Court Station has undertaken a major £500m transformation to accommodate the expected rise in the number of passengers that pass through the station each day when the new Elizabeth Line opens in 2018; bringing improved accessibility, and access to new line platforms to reduce congestion and additional escalators. This multi-million-pound upgrade has been awarded one of the most prestigious prizes at the British Construction Industry Awards 2017 as major civil engineering project of the year.
As commissioned by TFL, the project included the addition of a new public space, tunnels and shafts reaching 29m underground. Due to the vast scale of the project and the required specification, a bespoke pumping scheme was to be designed that could aid the comprehensive requirements.
T-T Pumps was selected to supply and install control systems, pumps and valves for the commission work required. A range of pumps were selected from the Zenit range, including the DGN, MAN, APN and ZUG pumps, chosen due to their robust design and efficient features. Both the valves and the pipework were selected and approved as specified. Control panels were designed to the requirements of the project and to TFL specifications. Factory acceptance testing took place to ensure all products were suitable for this application which is vital to be in optimal working condition on a day-to-day basis. TFL need products that can rely on to work tirelessly without failure, and T-T prides themselves on being able to offer these solutions.
