Check Valves for Fire Suppression at Opera House

When there was a requirement for check valves as part of an upgrade to a critical fire suppression system at one of the world’s finest and most celebrated opera houses, our distributor knew we would have the perfect solution.

Supplied by T-T Flow through a specialist fire suppression contractor to grade II listed Glyndebourne Manor near Lewes in East Sussex, the delivered valves are fully WRAS approved, meeting the needs of the client and ensuring reliable performance over a long life.

The Problem

With a history thought to date back as far as the early sixteenth century, Glyndebourne Manor is a historic grade II listed Edwardian country house nestled near Lewes in the South Downs National Park, just one hour from London.

Home to the annual Glyndebourne Festival since 1934, Glyndebourne is the site of a state-of-the-art 1,200-seat Opera House, an internationally recognised venue staging world-class operatic performances to some 150,000 people each year across its renowned Summer Festival and Autumn Tour.

During an upgrade to the critical fire suppression system at the estate, there was a requirement for robust check valves for backflow prevention. Our distributor knew we would have the ideal solution.

The Solution

Supplied indirectly through a specialist fire suppression contractor, T-T supplied a DN150 Swing Check Valve rated to 16 Bar. These valves have a proven design and are fully WRAS-approved, being fully compliant with Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations.

Designed for reliable performance over a long life, the valves have a corrosion-resistant fusion-bonded epoxy-coated ductile iron body and self-aligning disc technology ensuring optimal seating. An acid-resistant stainless steel shaft acts through self-lubricated bronze bushes for longevity, and flange drillings according to EN1092/PN16.  The valves also feature body bosses as standard that can facilitate tappings for optional pressure management sensors or sampling points.
