Actuated Eccentric Plug Valves for Sustainable Manufacturer

When an award-winning fresh ready meal brand expanded its production facilities with a new state-of-the-art factory in Dulcote, Wells, sustainability was at the forefront of their design.

The Problem

This site’s design included provisions for a bespoke wastewater treatment plant to clean water before it is discharged back into the local rivers; with T-T Flow being asked to supply the eccentric plug valves for essential flow modulation.

With B Corp certification, an established commitment to minimising their impact on the environment and a reputation for quality, every aspect of the new site had to meet their strict goals for performance and reliability.

The Solution

Using their technical knowledge and details from the proposed new site, our engineers specified eccentric plug valves for the flow control and isolation that was required; customising the valves with pneumatic actuators for even greater regulation precision.

Eccentric plug valves were chosen for their offset design as this causes the plug to lift from the valve seat during rotation. This reduces both operating torque and sealing face wear, contributing to a longer lasting and more reliable isolation valve.

They were also chosen for their proven effectivity in a wide range of different mediums, including water, gasses, suspended solids and slurries.

The latest generation of T-T Flow eccentric plug valves are backed by computer-aided design software, hydraulic analysis modelling and a range of features designed to maximise their operational performance and lifespan:

Ductile iron manufacturing ensures they are low in weight and high in strength
A fusion bonded epoxy coating and stainless-steel fasteners provide corrosion resistance
Encapsulating the plug in vulcanised rubber ensures reliable sealing
Self-lubricating stainless steel bearings and PTFE washers further reduce the valves’ operating torque

Our experts fitted and function tested a modulating pneumatic actuator to an integral ISO 5211 interface that was included for its cost-effectivity and ease of actuation. The fitted actuator was complete with a position transmitter that provides the operator with even higher precision flow control.
