Custom Inline Basket Strainers for Peninsula Hotel

The Peninsula Hong Kong, in Kowloon, is the flagship property of the Peninsula Hotels group – a luxury hotel chain that first opened its doors in 1928.

Boasting a five-star rating, several Michelin Star restaurants on its premises and a long-standing reputation for high-quality services, the world-renowned Peninsula Hong Kong came to T-T Flow in need of a custom valve solution.

The Problem 

The hotel’s inline multi-basket strainers that filtered the incoming service water needed to be replaced due to age and wear, however the model in use was no longer available. Along with limited access to the plant room and aggressive saline corrosion due to Hong Kong’s dual water supply, a custom solution was required to meet the needs of the famous site.

The Solution 

T-T Flow worked closely alongside the hotel’s engineering team to design an inline basket strainer that effectively filtered seawater long term and fit into the plant room, all while achieving the flow rate required for the hotel to operate to the highest standards.

Our experts utilised custom-made tooling in order to produce two DN600 inline four-basket strainers that were pressure-rated to 16 Bar. Epoxy coated ductile iron was chosen for their construction, providing a high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent resistance to continuous saline corrosion from the incoming seawater – with the internal baskets being made from finely perforated grade 316 stainless steel for reliable filtration.

The strainers were fitted with various features to maximise their lifespan and utility, including double O-ring seals to the inspection cove for sealing integrity, an integrated ball valve for draining during maintenance, tapped ports adjacent to flanges for pressure monitoring and internal threaded connections with sacrificial zinc anodes to greatly slow down corrosion for years of trouble-free service.
