The Problem

A large water provider, in the midst of fixing a fractured pipe at one of their treatment facilities, returned to the supplier of their DN1200 gate valves in need of gearbox sizing and selection.

The supplier was unresponsive and, due to the urgent nature of the situation, the Water Authority looked to T-T for a rapid turnaround on the critical valve actuator.

With a monumental repair effort, made up of over 200 engineers working on-site 24/7, and building scrutiny from the public, our valve experts needed to specify and dispatch the correct gearbox fast.

The Solution

Within a few hours of the request our experts despatched a gearbox with features designed to maximise its mechanical advantage and reliably operate the treatment facility’s large gate valves.

In this case, gearboxes allow for valves to be opened and closed remotely – benefitting operators of valve’s installed in unreachable areas or ones that cannot be accessed safely.

They also provide force amplification for larger valves and high-pressure applications where manual handling is unsafe or does not provide the force required to operate the valve.
