Aquabrake® - Anti-Surge Clean Water Air Valve

CSA LYNX 3F-RFP

Anti-Surge Non Slam Anti Water-Hammer Combination Air Valve

CSA's double orifice air valve is an innovative combination of small and large orifice air valves within compact cylindrical housing.

The large orifice is designed to admit bulk air during the pipeline draining phase, expel bulk air during system filling and bleed accumulations of air through the small orifice under regular operating conditions. The novel design features corrosion restraint components acting through a central axis and reduced weight when compared to comparative units.

CSA's double orifice air valve is used to prevent damaging pressure build-up, vacuums in the pipe system and water hammer, intaking and bleeding air to maintain stability; suitable for potable and filtered water applications.

Advanced Double Orifice Air Valve for Clean Water Systems

The Aquabrake® double orifice air valve is an innovative solution designed to protect pressurised water pipelines from damage caused by trapped air, vacuum formation, and water hammer. Combining a small and large orifice within a compact, corrosion-resistant body, the Aquabrake® valve ensures efficient air management throughout all operational stages — filling, operation, and draining.

As part of T-T Pumps’ high-performance clean water valve range, this WRAS-approved anti-surge double-orifice air valve features a lightweight single-chamber design that delivers optimal efficiency and reliability for potable and filtered water applications.

How the Double Orifice Air Valve Works

A double-orifice air valve uses two independent openings to automatically manage airflow. The large orifice handles the rapid intake or expulsion of air during pipeline filling and emptying, while the small orifice continuously bleeds trapped air during operation. This continuous release prevents air pockets from forming, maintains pressure stability, and protects the system’s integrity.

By incorporating CSA’s patented Rapid Fill Protection (RFP) system, the Aquabrake® intelligently slows down air discharge when needed, preventing the sudden closure of internal floats that can cause water hammer or pressure spikes.

Key Product Features:

  • Directly acting float mechanism
  • Lightweight compact single chamber design
  • Patented small orifice configuration
  • Excellent flow capacity
  • Drain valve
  • Corrosion-resistant construction
  • WRAS approved

The Benefits of Choosing the Aquabrake® Double Orifice Air Valve

  • Anti-Surge and Non-Surge Design: Prevents water hammer and pressure spikes during rapid filling or draining cycles.
  • Reliability in Every Environment: Suitable for potable water, filtration systems, and treatment facilities.
  • Energy Efficiency: Minimises turbulence and pressure fluctuation, improving pumping efficiency.
  • Simplified Maintenance: Lightweight, single-chamber design speeds inspection and servicing and makes them safer.
  • WRAS Approved: Fully compliant for use within UK potable water network systems.

Applications of the Aquabrake® Double Orifice Air Valve

Engineered for versatility, the Aquabrake® valve performs across a wide range of clean water applications. Ideal usage scenarios include:

  • Clean water pumping stations and treatment works
  • Pipeline air management in potable or filtered systems
  • Gravity and pressurised water distribution networks
  • Irrigation and agricultural water pipelines.

By preventing vacuum collapse and reducing surge-related stress, the valve ensures uninterrupted operation and longer asset lifespan.
