Slurry management and bedding acquisition represents a costly proportion of farming and agricultural processes. This is why T-T Pumps Ltd have worked with Cri-Man, a leading manufacturer of agricultural slurry handling equipment, to develop the HBC Biocell, a unique system that creates pasteurised bedding and fertilizer from slurry, saving the user thousands of pounds annually.

Now operational in the UK, the veterinary approved HBC Biocell provides a slurry management system that is not only highly cost effective, but can also significantly reduce the need for a large area of storage space needed for other bedding types. As an example of financial savings, if approximately £42,000 is spent on bedding per year, it is possible to see a return on investment in 5 years, following which, the only outlay is being the operational costs of the system.

Operationally, from the slurry reception pit, containing the mixer and heavy duty double chopper pump, the slurry is fed to a screw press separator, which separates the solid and liquid fractions. The resultant dry matter, of above 36%, is input into the HBC Biocell. A stabilisation process then dries and hygienicses the material reducing bacteria. This process is aerobic, achieved by mixing the material with simultaneous air insufflation. The output of the matter from the HBC Biocell, which has a percentage of dry matter of up to 55%, is then transported along a discharge elevator to the storage area, ready to be directly used as comfortable and hygienic bedding for cattle. All machinery involved in this process is supplied as part of the package.

The bedding produced from the HBC Biocell, monitored by the electronic control system, is of a very high quality, has been tested for both Salmonella and Escherichia Coli via repeat test measuring programs, and has consistently passed the tests. The bedding is veterinary approved, ensuring healthy livestock and is proven to improve milk production.
