Generating Green Energy at Anaerobic Digestion Plant

Our specialist knife gate valves are transforming waste food into green energy. TT Pumps have supported the green energy project by supplying over 80 high-performance knife gate valves to the £20m Anaerobic Digestion Plant in Derbyshire. Once fully operational, the facility will process up to 50,000 tonnes of waste food annually.

The £20m project, led by Severn Trent Green Power, is part of a network of anaerobic digestion facilities across the country which together generate 58 MW of green electricity each year. Food waste collected by local authorities, originally destined for landfill, is converted into biomethane and then injected into the gas distribution network.

Our dedicated valve division, T-T Flow, worked with the customer to supply a variety of valves for the project. This included many corrosion-resistant bi-directional and fully-lugged stainless steel (grade 316L/1.4404) bodied knife gate valves with double-acting pneumatic cylinders, limit sensing inductive proximity switches, solenoid valves and junction boxes.

Knife gate valves use a profiled-edged blade to cut through media, suited to isolating thicker process media such as slurry, sludge, viscous and media containing solids - perfect for Derby's anaerobic digestion plant.
